Four ways We Find a Vehicle
AUCTION

Auction houses (venues) are located in cities throughout Japan with the largest being located near major port facilities. With the amount of vehicles, the duration of the bidding for one vehicle may lasts less than one minute. Viewing the vehicle prior the auction date is the best option, but because of the location it’s not always possible. Vehicles are sold ”As-is”, so there a risk with cars purchased at auctions.
DEALERS

Dealerships in Japan are similar to what you will find in the USA or other countries. You can view the vehicle on their lot, on their website, or other internet portals. Not only do the vehicles come from private sellers, but many are purchased direct from auctions houses. Many dealers will perform standard maintenance and minor repairs, in addition to providing a vehicle warranty.
ONLINE PLATFORM

There are three to five major online platforms selling new or used vehicles in Japan, not including dealerships and manufacturers. They offer an easy and convenient way to view and compare vehicles on a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. Many of the vehicles listed are posted by dealerships who list their vehicles on multiple platforms.
PRIVATE OWNER

Private sellers in Japan are limited compared to other countries. You will not find cars listed in local newspapers, bulletin boards or for sale signs of windows. Most private sellers will trade-in or sell directly to their local dealerships. There are independent salesman who can be hired to locate a particular model vehicle and negotiate a purchase.
